Amethyst is one of the most characteristic purple-coloured varieties of the mineral quartz. Its colour is caused by the presence of trace elements of iron and titanium in the quartz crystal lattice and by natural radiation.
The specimens from Uruguay are mainly from geodes formed in cavities in basaltic rocks. These specimens are characterised by a deeper, more saturated purple colour and a rich, sharply contoured crystal surface.
The 13 cm tall standing specimen in the picture is polished and polished on the outer rim, making it an excellent addition to your collection or even your home.
